Jersey Collections
Different people do things for different reasons. People ask me why I collect certain things. Sometimes I'm not sure. It even puzzles me sometimes but here's somewhat of an explanation.
I don't own many of these shirts anymore but I've decided to leave them up for future reference for everyone
Darren was the 1st player I actually wanted
to have his jerseys. It was basically the name resemblance. Almost all the
Witherell, Wetherill, Witherall, Weatheril and every other mutation is desended
from Charles Wetherell who arrived in this country in the early 1700's from
England. Hence my fasination...
I start collecting Fish's jerseys
because the Orlando Solar Bears were the first hockey team that I really
followed seriously. I was the 1st season ticket holder for the team in December
of 1994 and remained one thru the 6 season the team was here. The Orlando
Sentinel even did a story on me and my hockey buddies before the season opener.
It's how I got my handle actually but I digress.... Craig was thee man for the
Bears inaugural team. He was simply amazing that season and ended up with
something like 74 goals and 130 point. He wore
#17...
Kyle played for the roller hockey team that had moved into the O-Rena the summer
before the O-Bears started. The Rollergators were terrible and Kyle didn't get
much of a chance to help the team. He scored 115 points with 68 goals in Ft
Worth that winter with the CHL's Fire. It carried over to the new Orlando
roller hockey team that next summer, the Jackals. The won the 1996 RHI
championship at home just after the inaugural Solar Bears had been swept in the
IHL Turner Cup championship. Hockey was hot! Kyle wore
#17...

Derek Armstrong is another scorer
that has had good luck with the #17.
He wore it in Hartford and put up some serious numbers; 80, 82 and 101 points in
98-99 thru the 00-01 seasons. He has recently found a home in LA with the Kings
and has played there the last 5 years. He now wears #7. "Army" has racked up
over 200 games in the show.
I was heavy into collecting
#17's before I
realized I had a couple that had the name plate "Morgan" on the back. I found
out it was the same guy and a little research showed me that that was the number
he preferred so...
I missed out on the Sutters so this is the brother connection for the new
millennium. Pete, Joe, Dan, Jim, Bill and Ted... It's been a lot of fun
collecting these jerseys I think the only person who has more is their mom. Bill
told me she has a whole room full of them. I'd like to get a peek.
